POLICE investigating a burglary that left an 87-year-old York woman injured have issued an efit picture of their suspect.
The woman was confronted by the intruder in her home in Victoria Court, off Leeman Road, on New Year’s Day. She was discharged from hospital but has since been readmitted.
A police spokesman said the suspect, described as white, in his late twenties, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, turned left on the bike out of Victoria Court at about 11am, and fled on a grey or silver old-fashioned gents’ bicycle after being tackled by the woman’s son.
Officers have appealed to anyone who saw him to contact them, and the spokesman said they were particularly keen to speak to two women seen in the area at the time.
He said: “Officers have been making extensive enquiries since the burglary and have identified two women who were in the area of Leeman Road and Aldborough Way around the time of the incident, who may have information vital to the investigation.
“They are both described as being white and aged around 40. One had black, wavy shoulder-length hair and was wearing a light blue anorak. The other woman was wearing a red anorak. Officers are keen to trace the women and are urging them to come forward as soon as possible.”
The spokesman said the man, who has a stocky build, a clean-shaven round face and small teeth, was wearing a grey hooded-top, dark bottoms and had a scarf around his head. He also spoke with a foreign, possibly eastern European accent, and may have been in the area in the days prior to the burglary.
