I WAS pleased to see that the council had recouped most of the money which had been overpaid to council staff in the past three years (“Council pay slip”, The Press, December 28) but there is still nearly £30,000 not recouped.

When I was at school in the early 1950s, our headmaster, Mr Gelson, before he took a lesson always wrote on the blackboard the words: “Nothing slipshod”.

It sounds as if there has been quite a bit of slipshod work done in one way and another and surely if you were overpaid you would know about it.

Never mind, hopefully this time next year the books will be A-Okay.
