I HAVE read with interest the articles on Lendal Bridge, especially with regard to the sheer numbers of people who are being caught.
While visiting York in December, I inadvertently crossed this bridge along with other traffic in front and behind.
I came down the A1079 road as I came to the lights by the city wall. I turned right, looking for a convenient car park to visit the Minster.
After this I carried on around following signs for the inner ring road. I then crossed over a bridge with other vehicles.
I did not see any signs saying this was a restricted route.
I feel a diversion notice should be displayed to warn motorists the road ahead is closed. The number of motorists being caught out indicates that something is wrong with the road signage and visitors are bearing the brunt.
It is all very well for city council to say motorists should pay attention to road conditions and all signs. But they seem to have lost sight of the fact that visitors are at a disadvantage.
I was staggered by the numbers caught out at Lendal Bridge.
I have never heard of a case like this before.
