NEARLY 15 years ago Tony Blair promised to eliminate child poverty by 2020. And while the problem is still far from solved, his deadline stands more chance of becoming reality thanks to charities such as the Archbishop of York’s pioneering Acts 435.
Its name comes from a passage in the Bible urging people to share with and give to those in need. Best of all, those who help know that what they are giving will meet a specific request.
Dr Sentamu’s charity has now responded to 3,000 requests for help, the latest being a washing machine donated to a single mother. But other acts of kindness range from helping mums pay for children’s school uniforms to buying a cooker for families to enjoy hot meals.
Christmas reminded us that it is a time for giving and Acts 435 should remind us that also applies to every day of the year.
Because this charity is doing a stirling job and deserves all our support.
We think it’s a fantastic project.
