PEOPLE in Tadcaster are being urged to throw their support behind a new life-saving scheme.
The Community First Responder scheme, run by Yorkshire Ambulance Service, trains members of the public in emergency first aid, including CPR and oxygen therapy, and equips them with kit to help patients in an emergency such as a heart attack, collapse or breathing difficulties until an ambulance arrives.
The first six volunteers in Tadcaster started their roles at the end of last year, and the organisation has urged more people to get in touch and take part.
Ben Rushworth, from Yorkshire Ambulance Service, said: “The first few minutes are critical in a medical emergency and access to effective treatment really does save lives. Being a Community First Responder can be extremely rewarding and I would encourage anyone who may be interested in taking on the role to get in touch.”
Volunteers must be over 18, physically fit, and hold a full driving licence with no more than three penalty points. Full training will be given to successful applicants on completion of a full Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.
