One of the founders of York Against Cancer has been appointed chairman of the charity.
Steve Leveson is to take over the helm from Patrick Shepherd who has been chairman since 2002.
Mr Shepherd, who has led the charity through many events including the charity’s silver anniversary celebrations, said: “Since being appointed chairman in 2002 the time has flown. I was very fortunate to succeed Mark Sessions and was part of a team that was able to continue developing the charity into what it has become today.
"I am delighted Steve Leveson has succeeded me, I cannot think of anyone who is better equipped to understand the needs of the people for whom the charity was set up to help and also to help shape the direction the charity needs to take over the next few years.”
Mr Leveson, a Professor of Surgery at Hull York Medical School, said: “It’s an honour to be asked to take on the role of chairman, especially having been a co-founder of the charity and having seen it go from strength to strength. I hope that I can continue to make an impact in terms of enhancing the care of patients affected by cancer and their families.”
