PLANS to build new homes on land attached to a Selby pub have been submitted to the council.

The plans, by developer WA Hare, would see six new homes created in the car park area of the New Inn, at Barlby.

If permission is granted, half a dozen two and three bedroom houses would be built on the land to the side and rear of the Howden Road pub, currently used as parking for the venue.

New parking spaces for the pub, which will accommodate 13 cars, will also be created as part of the development.

Each of the six new homes – which will also be walled off from the access to the pub – will each have parking for two vehicles.

Ward and district councillor Steph Duckett said it was still very early in the development of the scheme, but the local council and residents would be considering it closely.

Coun Duckett said: “I am pleased that it looks like the plans are keeping the pub in the village. We will be looking at it closely with the parish council and looking for comments from local residents about it.”

So far, one resident has commented on the plans, requesting clarification on the boundaries of the new development – specifically the border of the rear of the site and All Saints’ churchyard.

Speaking for the PCC of All Saints’, the resident urged the planning committee to ensure a condition on the scheme to ensure a high fence or brick wall be built along the existing border as “access to the churchyard from the rear of the houses should not be possible”.

A decision on the plans is expected next month.
