A NEW adoption hotline in East Yorkshire is to be staffed by volunteers who have adopted children themselves.
The team will answer initial queries from people wanting more information about the adoption process from Being Family, the new name for the Yorkshire and Humber Adoption Consortium, of which East Riding of Yorkshire Council is a member.
The confidential helpline, on 0300 222 5934, is run from 10am to 6pm between Monday and Friday.
Nic Haughton, Being Family’s manager, said: “Our helpline team have been specially selected for their insider knowledge of adoption, who understand the process and can talk about how life-changing it is.
“Our aim is to make the early stages of becoming an adopter more integrated so we increase the number of adopters in Yorkshire and Humber.”
In Yorkshire, 800 children are awaiting adoption and the number is expected to rise. For more information, phone the helpline or 01482 396673 or visit eastriding.gov.uk/adoption.
