A MAN has told a jury he was repeatedly raped by an older boy when he was a child more than 20 years ago.
The man was giving evidence yesterday at York Crown Court, where Christian Draper is standing trial accused of carrying out a series of sexual assaults on him in Selby in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Draper, 41, of Front Street in Acomb, has denied committing five serious sexual offences, five indecent assaults and two counts of indecency with a child.
Kitty Taylor, prosecuting, said his alleged victim had suffered from violence and intimidation from Draper before the sexual offences started, and this explained in part why he had remained silent at the time about what was happening to him.
She said Draper denied committing any sexual offences when he was arrested and interviewed by police, saying it was all “complete lies”.
Draper’s alleged victim said he had been regularly beaten up by him and was frightened of him. “Afterwards, I was completely frozen,” he said. “If I challenged him, I would get one of his beatings.”
He said the attacks happened two or three times a week. “It just became a way of life to be abused in that way,” he said, adding that he could never recall Draper saying anything when he carried out the attacks.
He alleged that on one occasion when he was abused he was given £1. “I went off and bought a comic,” he said.
The trial continues today.
