THIS year we are remembering the start of the First World War 100 years ago. Almost a million young men died in appalling conditions in the trenches and the ones who got home had little help from the state.

After the Second World War it took the government that long to recognise the bravery of the men who fought, but which time most of them were dead.

Now we hear that David Cameron’s barber has been awarded the MBE for services to hairdressing, I would have thought the £90 per cut was reward enough.
