VOLUNTEERS are needed to help look after Selby’s historic waterways and join a team that helps maintain and improve the River Ouse and Selby Canal which run through the town.
The call comes from the Canal and River Trust which is recruiting people to its Selby towpath taskforce team who muck in to help protect some of the most important heritage and wildlife habitats in the town.
The taskforce meets every third Saturday of the month, at various locations along the canal and works from 10am to 3pm.
The first session of 2014 will take place on Saturday, January 18, at Brayton Bridge, where Brayton Lane crosses the Selby Canal.
Tools and equipment will be provided and volunteers should wear protective footwear if possible.
