YORK Central MP Hugh Bayley has met local councillors to discuss a house that was an eyesore for several years.
The property in Bradley Drive was empty for more than 15 years and was targeted by squatters, vandals and fly-tippers.
Last July, after seeking Government approval for a compulsory purchase order, City of York Council agreed to renovate the house and add it to its housing stock.
The council said the owners had not worked with the council to bring the building back into use.
Mr Bayley said: “York has a major shortage of housing and I am glad the council was able to get a Compulsory Purchase Order to take over this house.
“Compulsory purchase is a last resort in cases like this where a property has been abandoned.”
