NEW homes which have taken the place of a former York primary school are expected to welcome their first residents next month.

A completion date for the Bootham Green housing development at the former Shipton Street School site in Clifton was initially set for November, and then pushed back to December last year with 38 homes including new build town houses and converted houses within the historic Grade II listed buildings.

Speaking on behalf of the developers Rushbond Group and Advent, Chris Hildreth said all the homes had now been sold.

He said: “Bootham Green is the first new homes development to be built within walking distance of York city centre for more than four years and the phenomenal levels of demand we have experienced demonstrates how there is a chronic shortage of new homes in the area.”

The school closed in 2002 and the Bootham Green scheme has been supported by local residents and councillors.
