A WILDLIFE organisation has warned one of Yorkshire’s coastal tourist sights may become harder to visit after damage caused by winter storms.
Clean-up work began over the weekend at Spurn Point, but a final decision on whether the damaged road will be repaired will not be made until March.
Harry Watkins, heritage officer for Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, said the Spurn National Nature Reserve would be closed until further notice and only reopened when absolutely safe.
He said the condition of the peninsula would determine whether the road can be repaired. The trust has secured permission for a £650,000 scheme to turn the Spurn Point lighthouse into a visitor centre and hopes to start work in late spring.
