AN appeal has been issued for volunteers to help protect Selby’s river and canal.
The Canal and River Trust charity is recruiting people for its Selby Towpath Taskforce team, which meets on the third Saturday each month to look after and improve Selby Canal and the stretch of the River Ouse which runs through the town.
Recent projects have included planting wildflowers and bulbs, clearing overgrowth, painting locks and cutting back vegetation.
Volunteer co-ordinator Claire McDonald said: “Selby’s waterways are a proud part of the town’s history and we need help to give them the care they deserve and to improve them for the future.”
The team will meet on Saturday at Brayton Bridge, with tools and equipment provided. More information is at canalrivertrust.org.uk/towpathtaskforce, while those interested in joining can email claire.mcdonald@canalrivertrust.org.uk or phone 07920 295943.
