THE destruction of the 1807 interior of Pocklington Christian Fellowship Church is an appalling act of vandalism.
Judging by the photographs in your article of January 13, the interior with its curved gallery, slender columns, pews and fittings appears to be virtually untouched and in its original state. That this act is aided by a grant from WREN that claims to award grants to community, environmental and heritage projects across the UK makes this stick in the throat even more.
I assume this building was not listed, as it should have been, and that Pocklington Civic Society was unable to intervene to save it.
If the church wanted a different building they should have found one and not destroyed what appears to be with the parish church and the former railway station one of Pocklington’s most significant buildings.
