A TALENTED North Yorkshire teenager is gearing up for the finals of a prestigious science and engineering competition after creating a child’s traditional rocking horse.
Amelia Marson, 16, was a pupil at Selby High School when she designed and made the rocking horse as part of her product design GCSE.
She entered her project into the National Science and Engineering Competition and won the regional heat.
Amelia was given several briefs to chose from and plumped for one which called for a child’s toy.
The challenge was to make the toy develop a child’s mental or physical abilities. Amelia decided to make the rocking horse complete with instruction manual and grooming brush to teach children about caring for pets.
She will now go head-to-head with pupils from across the country when she represents Yorkshire and Humber at the finals of The Big Bang UK Young Scientists And Engineers Fair in Birmingham in March.
Amelia’s entry will be on display to more than 60,000 visitors and she will pitch her design to celebrity judges in a Dragons’ Den process.
