York Indoor Bowls Club showed their intentions as they got off to a good start in their Yetton Trophy game against Redcar.
They led 26-15 on aggregate after five ends; extended their advantage to 47-25 after ten and then finished in style scoring 23 shots to just four against over the last three ends to finish as 111-50 victors.
Sue Allen’s team got off to a flier. Leading 7-0 after only three ends, they were quickly pegged back to 7-6.
The home side won the next three to make the score 13-6 before the next four ends were shared.
The pivotal point came when Allen’s side amassed a massive 23 shots over the last seven ends for an emphatic 39-10 success.
Carol Instone’s team posted a superb six on the opening end, but by the eighth the teams were deadlocked at 7-7.
There was still nothing between the sides at 11-11 with six ends to go.
Beryl Alderson’s team opened a gap with a single then a four, but this was countered immediately as the home side scored a five then went on to win the next three ends before dropping a single on the last to finish up winning 20-17.
Away, both teams excelled. Helen Walker’s team only lost five ends in an easy 24-7 triumph, while Linda Harrison’s team took control from the eighth end.
They lost just one out of the next seven, going from 8-6 ahead to 22-12 on their way to a 28-16 victory.
York play Cumbria next next in the last 16 a week on Saturday, starting at noon.
