CLIMBING the equivalent of a ten-storey building would daunt most of us, but doing it one handed is nearly impossible.

For Sianagh Gallagher, from Acomb, it isn’t, because this impressive teenager is ranked fourth among Europe’s paraclimbers and, last June, became the first one-armed person to join Team GB’s paraclimbing team.

But the cost of competing at international level is as steep as a climbing wall, and Sianagh has no choice but to find private sponsorship to pay half her bills.

Fortunately, York’s biggest bus operator, First, has stepped up to the mark and is now the 16 year old’s official backer.

Sianagh was rightly named Sporting Hero in The Press Community Pride Awards last autumn, and her mum says she hopes to make it to the Paralympics one day.

With support like this and Sianagh’s determination, we reckon anything is possible.
