OFFICERS from North Yorkshire Police targeting travelling criminals in the region have been joined in their campaign by forces from other areas.
North Yorkshire Police’s Operation Hawk has run since last summer, but with Operation Checkpoint, 42 officers joined members of Cumbria, Northumbria and forces in Scotland in policing the borders.
The operation saw officers gather intelligence on travelling criminals, disrupting criminal activity and reassuring local communities by providing high visibility presence.
North Yorkshire Police’s Assistant Chief Constable Paul Kennedy, said: “This show of force sends a clear message to the criminal fraternity that their activity will not be tolerated and we are all united with the aim of disrupting their behaviour and bringing them to justice, no matter where they choose to operate.”
