A YORK optician is urging people to donate their unwanted spectacles to help improve the eye health of those less fortunate in Africa.
Acomb Specsavers’ appeal comes on the back of a successful campaign last year when 461 pairs of spectacles were donated.
The old glasses will be recycled and the money will be used by Vision Aid Overseas to fund the charity's work in developing countries, which includes giving people eye tests and treatment, and training local optometrists.
Over the last decade, Specsavers and Vision Aid Overseas have raised more than £370,000 and collected more than 250,000 pairs of glasses Stephen McEnaney, store director at Acomb Specsavers, said: “Specsavers offers professional eye care to all on the high street. For this reason it is important we do what we can to improve eye health elsewhere.”
