IT was interesting to read Coun James Alexander putting so much emphasis on the importance of Superfast Broadband, with reference to the City-wide CORE project bringing fibre technology to York (The Press, January 24).
Here on the outskirts in Askham Bryan, only just a couple of miles from the Dringhouses exchange, BT can only promise to deliver 1 Megabyte per sec. and there seem to be no plans to bring fibre to our vicinity any time soon. Compare this to the Gigabyte per second suggested by Coun Alexander.
Putting this in perspective for readers who are not computer literate, this is a little like saying City of York Council is providing a Ferrari F1 car, while out in the suburbs we are trudging around in a rusty old Ford Anglia.
BT advertise their own fibre-optic packages on national television – but don’t point out that this is only for areas of high population. Shame on you, BT.
