IT won’t come as much of a surprise to learn that last year’s Illuminating York turned out to be a damp squib, in terms of revenue.
The decision to charge higher admission charges saw the number of visitors almost halve, with the Liberal Democrats claiming only 9,562 people actually bought tickets.
We think that sends out a clear message. The festival used to be free and it should be again. Illuminating York is a spectacle for the people of this city, not a money-raising exercise.
