MOST of us lead busy lives and finding a balance between work and home is difficult. Just ask John Thomsett, who writes in our paper today about his regrets at letting career come before loved ones.
It’s a familiar story and will resonate with many. But that doesn’t make it any less poignant. Too often we think our families are more understanding of our absence than our employers. This may well be the case, but we should not sacrifice watching our children grow up for the sake of promotion and material gain.
Mr Tomsett wrote his piece because he is worried that “too many of us are working ourselves into the ground”, and he wants parents to think about their family life before it is too late.
Let’s hope, after reading his heartfelt article, more will.
