THE UNIVERSITY of York has been awarded £470,000 in funding for chemistry research from a project hosted by the Science and Technologies Council.
The funding will help the university develop software for research in the pharmaceutical industry and laboratories worldwide.
The grant was awarded to Dr Kevin Cowtan, of the university’s structural biology laboratory, in the form of a five-year research fellowship.
It is part of a long-running project developing software used to determine the three-dimensional structures of biomolecules which could make a key contribution to scientists’ understanding of how proteins work, which will in turn have applications in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
