STUDENTS from the University of York left police powerless in a football match to raise awareness of a new campaign.
The game between the university’s football team and officers from North Yorkshire Police took place at the weekend, with the students running out 9-1 winners.
Hosted by the university’s Students Union, the match was in aid of its Call It In campaign, which aims to encourage students to be more willing to report crime.
The campaign also aims to improve the relationship between police and the student community.
Cyrus Kay, of the university’s Students’ Union, said: “The match went very well. We had a fantastic response and it was fantastic in terms of building relationships.”
Players and spectators had the chance to socialise in one of the union bars after the game.
