TERRY Temple beat ex-BDO world champion Mark Webster to book a place in the field for next month’s Dutch Darts Masters.

The Whitwell-on-the-Hill arrows ace defeated former Premier League player Webster 6-5 in Wigan to become one of the 20 UK qualifiers at the Veldhoven event, which will take place from February 14 to 16.

Temple will join the PDC Pro Tour’s top-16 seeded players in the Netherlands tournament, where the likes of world champion Michael van Gerwen, runner-up Peter Wright and world number four Adrian Lewis could be potential opponents.

Prior to his victory over Webster, Temple also knocked out Alan Tabern 6-3 and overcame William O’Connor 6-2. It marked the end of a fine week’s work for the North Yorkshire tungsten titan after he secured his place on the PDC tour for another year at the 2014 Q School.

From a 360-strong field, he was one of 40 players to win a card on the circuit after finishing 19th in the Order of Merit after four days of qualifying events.

The semi-finalists from each competition enjoyed automatic qualification for the tour with Temple’s best performance coming on day one when he reached the last 16 following wins over Tony Baker (5-0), Jamie Guilfoyle (5-4), Mareno Michels (5-4), Jon Jukes (5-3) and Dave Bird (5-0) before losing to Brian Woods 5-3.

Temple has not made the German Championship after a 6-1 second round defeat by Ritchie Burnett.
