THE songs of Scottish popsters Wet Wet Wet will wash over crowds at York’s annual mixture of music and racing this summer.
The Marti Pellow-fronted band, who formed in the Eighties and had hits including Goodnight Girl and Love Is All Around - part of the soundtrack to Four Weddings And A Funeral - have been confirmed as the headline act for the second day of York Racecourse’s Music Showcase meeting on Saturday, July 26.
Tickets for the afternoon’s racing followed by Wet Wet Wet’s open-air Knavesmire concert have now gone on sale from £19 per person for group bookings, with accompanied children free of charge. The act which will appear on Friday, July 25 - when the racing action includes the listed European Breeders’ Fund Lyric Stakes - will be announced soon.
“The Music Showcase is already established as the most popular raceday of its type, and we are thrilled that Wet Wet Wet will perform here this year,” said James Brennan, the racecourse’s head of marketing and sponsorship.
“When combined with some of the best thoroughbreds in the country, we’re believe we’re on to a winner by attracting Wet Wet Wet. The band are renowned for being a fantastic live act with a brilliant back catalogue of hits.”
The band, who have sold more than 15 million records and released a greatest hits album called Step By Step with an accompanying tour last year, will perform on a trackside stage after the final race.
Fans who book quickly can take advantage of a price-freeze offer which sees 2014 prices held at their 2013 level until the end of January, after which they will rise by £1 per person, and tickets can be booked and more details obtained at yorkracecourse,co.uk or by phoning 01904 620911. Tickets are sold on an “integrated” basis and not for the concert only.
