NEW Earswick found the going tough in their Yorkshire League division one encounter against reigning champions Featherstone.
There was consolation for the Huntington Road club in one winning rink.
Barry Johnson’s away team were 7-0 ahead after three ends but by the 11th end were level at 12-12.
A good run saw them surge 22-12 ahead with four ends to play. They lost all four but managed to hold on for an impressive 22-20 victory.
Paul Dawson’s team lost their game between the seventh and 14th ends when they went from 7-5 down to 26-7 behind on their way to a 35-10 defeat.
At home, Brian Gray’s team had an 11-8 advantage after 12 ends but went into the last 22-11 down before scoring a two.
Barry Harrison’s side were never in their game against Tony Horobin’s team, who led 14-3 after nine ends.
However, the home side were consoled by scoring three fours out of the six ends they won as they lost their game 30-17.
