SPEAKING of the Grand Départ – there has, in the Yorkshire way of things, been some scepticism about how much of a draw it will be.
Well, that scepticism was blown away yesterday. All 20,000 free tickets to watch riders set off from York Racecourse were snapped up within four and a half hours.
We’re not surprised. The Tour de France is one of the world’s great sporting events. The opening two stages through theYorkshire countryside promise to be thrilling. And York will be the perfect host for the Grand Départ on day two. We can’t wait.
