A SECOND Garforth Villa test awaits Thorpe United Under-15s after they won through to the final of the Barkston Ash FA Junior U16s Cup.
Thorpe beat hosts Garforth Villa ‘A’ 2-0 in the semi-final to book a final clash with Garforth Villa ‘B’, who were 3-0 winners over Garforth Rangers ‘B’ in the other last-four tie.
A goal in each half was enough for Thorpe, whose cup run has also included a 9-0 win at Sherburn White Rose and a 2-0 home victory over Wetherby Athletic.
Ben Clowes picked up the ball in his own half and drifted forward unchallenged before a speculative effort cleared the Villa ’keeper and dipped under the bar for a 1-0 Thorpe lead.
United ’keeper Alex Ward was called into action several times in the first period, but Garforth were unable to conjure up an equaliser.
Villa had more of the play in the second half, but were repelled by man-of-the-match Matthew Webster and Haydn Brown.
Brown made a good run out of defence and was bundled over, with Lewis Griffiths’ free-kick going out for a corner.
From Jordan Emery’s flag kick, Reece Franks shot and Clowes deflected the ball away from the ’keeper and into the net.
Thorpe are still chasing a league and cup double.
They are locked together with Horsforth St Margaret’s Earthquakes at the top of Garforth Junior League U15s division one.
