THE National Railway Museum in York is to host a music festival this autumn –with a moving train serving as one of the stages, writes Lewis Pennock.
The free MOR Music Festival, which can by attended by up to 2,500 people over the day, will take place on September 6.
Acts will perform in the Station Hall and on the Directors Carriage in the South Yard.
York’s Beth McCarthy, who is currently starring on BBC’s The Voice, is among acts confirmed for the festival.
There will also be performances from other local talent including Boss Caine.
Organisers are expecting at least 20 artists in total, with set lengths ranging from 20 minutes to an hour.
The first MOR music festival was organised by MOR Music, an independent music shop on Fossgate, and took place in October 2011 as part of York’s Guitar Weekend.
It returned again in 2012 as part of the York 800 celebrations and proved a massive success, with thousands turning out to see the event in Parliament Street.
Lynne O’Dea, of MOR Music, said she was delighted with the collaboration with the NRM.
“We’re thrilled to be working with the National Railway Museum,” she said. “We’ve had lots of local interest with bands keen to get on board and some great acts to look forward to.”
Jim Lowe, visitor experience ops manager at the museum, agreed, saying: “The museum is excited to be playing host to this popular event.
“This is a free event and anyone with an interest in music or the railways should make tracks to the museum come September time.”
