ALMOST £3,000 has been raised for two local charities by the residents of possibly York’s most Christmassy street.
Twin Pike Way in Wigginton has been lit with hundreds of festive lights each Christmas for more than ten years – earning the cul-de-sac the nickname Twinkle Pike Way.
Visitors to the street’s display over the festive season are encouraged to donate to its chosen good causes.
The 2013 event raised £2,800, more than £300 up on the previous year, with the money being shared between St Leonard’s Hospice and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, two charities which have been supported from the start of the Twin Pike display. The festive lights have raised more than £50,000 over the years.
“Once again, the lights at Twin Pike Way have proved a great Christmas attraction for many people in York and further afield,” said Niki Turnbull of St Leonard’s Hospice.
“We are very grateful to all the residents for their continued support for the work of local charities, and we hope the lights will continue to shine for many years.”
