THE letter of January 23 from Robert Greaves about the loss of innocence struck a chord with me.
It is a great pity that nowadays all physical contact is viewed with suspicion and the most innocent of cuddles and kisses are taboo. Demonstration of affection does not have to mean anything sinister.
As a young child, I had a distant relative who was known for liking little girls. He was viewed with a mixture of amusement, tolerance and some wariness, although many little girls liked him – he was quite good looking and perfectly harmless.
The thought of accusing him of anything approaching sexual assault would never have entered our heads and now, years later, to go down this route is, to my mind, quite wrong.
