East Riding students and pupils will be testing their design skills at a fashion show using junk clothing, old sheets and curtains.
The show, on Tuesday, February 11, at Beverley Leisure Centre, will highlight the mountain of clothes, textiles and shoes sent to landfill.
Taking part in the design competition will be students from Bishop Burton College and East Riding College and pupils from Headlands School, Bridlington, and Long Croft School, Beverley.
There will be two categories; one for those aged 16 years and over who will be asked to design a garment for evening wear, and the second for those aged 14 to 15 years who will be asked to make an accessory, such as a handbag or jewellery from discarded clothing or textiles.
Coun Symon Fraser said: “The amount of clothing and household items like curtains that we send to landfill is staggering.”
