SO £2.2 million may be spent on the city centre (The Press, January 24). I feel that amount of money would be much better spent on repair and upgrade of the roads and pavements. A number of years ago our area was in Ryedale, where we had really good services regarding refuse collections, grass cutting, road repairs, etc.
Then we were moved into the City of York Council area, since when we have been treated as unimportant, second-class residents.
We have roads that are ‘holey’ and footpaths rough and uneven with big cracks left from when utilities have dug them up over and over again, and cycle lanes that are hardly wide enough for a cycle, and nothing is ever done for us.
It seems that all the money is spent on the centre of the city and the rest of us can go and whistle I’m suspicious of this idea of narrowing the mouth of St Leonard’s Place.
It smacks of a decision having already been made about not allowing us to cross the river at a point where it is most convenient to us.
