WOULDN’T it be great if Dignity Action Day was uncalled for? It may seem obvious to most of us that vulnerable people should be treated with respect, but we still hear stories of institutionalised abuse towards the elderly in care homes.
So spending an hour on Saturday to remind ourselves that dignity in care is everybody’s business will be time well spent.
As Pauline Buchanan of York Older People’s Assembly tells us, in an era of sensational reports on the mistreatment of elderly and vulnerable people in care, it is reassuring to hear of an initiative to combat the attitudes which lie behind such treatment.
Indeed so, and it deserves our fullest attention.
