FIVE free events designed to bring learning to life for children in York are taking place in York during February.
Employee volunteering charity York Cares is hosting York Children’s University CU in the City – a two-week series of fun and interactive workshops and activities.
From exploding marshmallows in space at the University of York, to chocolate masterclasses with York Cocoa House and a look behind the scenes at Bootham Crescent, these events are designed to support family learning, promote curiosity and encourage children to try new things.
The events are aimed at seven-to 11-year-olds who must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.
The aim of York Children’s University (York CU) is to engage five-to 14-year-olds in fun, quality and innovative experiences outside the school classroom.
Children collect stickers in their CU passports for approved CU activities and certificates are awarded once a year at a graduation event at the University of York.
Passports are available from participating schools or York Theatre Royal.
The Children’s University is a national scheme which seeks to inspire children by taking them to new places with the aim of raising aspirations, boosting achievement and fostering a love of learning.
York CU is led and managed by York Cares under the umbrella of the national Children’s University Trust, and brings together schools, businesses, universities, museums, libraries, sports and music clubs and outdoor activities.
