PUPILS at a dance studio which holds classes in York and East Yorkshire raised more than £400 for a Yorkshire hospice.
Starbrite Studios, which operates in Shiptonthorpe and Nether Poppleton and holds after-school classes at Warter CE School, Poppleton Ousebank School and Rufforth School, handed a cheque for £432.59 to St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds.
The money was raised at charity shows at Shiptonthorpe created by Starbrite creative director Emma Bailey-Hague and featuring music, dance and drama from each decade from the 1920s to the present day. Audience member Malcolm Jeffrey said: “I went along to watch my grandchildren and was so impressed with everyone who performed.
“It was my birthday and I think the enjoyment I got from watching all the wonderful young people was the nicest present I received.”
Brenda Ebdon, who was also in the audience, said: “We were really impressed with all the dancers, not just our granddaughter, Ella Guest. Miss Emma must be a great teacher to have so many talented students showing such a huge range of dance styles.”
