THE Joseph Rowntree Theatre has received a £1,500 cash boost from a city charity.

The York Common Good Trust has presented a cheque to the community theatre on Haxby Road as a way of marking a landmark in the organisation’s history.

Christine Allpress, secretary of the trust, said: “We have recently held our 150th meeting since our incorporation in 1974, and wanted to give a special grant in recognition. The Joseph Rowntree Theatre was identified as a worthy local cause.”

The theatre is run by a charitable trust and has no outside funding but uses all its profits to run the venue and maintain its state of the art facilities.

The grant from the York Common Good Trust has been used to buy new follow spotlights which were shown off to visitors at the recent Residents’ Weekend.
