TWO York schoolboys are striding out in their onesies to raise money for pupils in Africa.
Joseph Rowntree School pupils Elliot Ritchie, 12, and Robert Gowland, 11, both of Wigginton, are to run 5km around the streets of Haxby on Saturday, February 15.
They will be starting and finishing outside Sainsbury’s at Haxby Shopping Centre.
All money raised through sponsorship and bucket collections on the day will go to the charity Classrooms For Malawi.
By working with the local community, the charity aims to build and improve classrooms in Malawi to an acceptable standard, fit for educating children.
It wants to put an end to children being taught under trees during the rainy season or in crumbling, unsafe buildings.
Elliot and Robert decided to do the sponsored run after hearing about the problems facing children in Malawi during project work at school.
“We just wanted to raise some money to help children in Malawi, who are less fortunate than us,” said Elliot.
“We hope people and local companies will sponsor us.” To find more details about the run, the charity and how to sponsor the boys, visit justgiving.com/robert-elliot-malawi
