York Indoor Bowls Club’s ladies’ run in the Yetton Trophy continued after they easily beat Cumbria 89-52 with the Cumbrians waving the white flag with 12 ends to go across the board.

The home teams got off to solid starts with Carol Instone’s leading 15-1 by the eighth end and Sue Allen’s leading 7-1 after five.

Away, Helen Walker's side also posted a flier leading 14-2 by the eighth though Linda Harrison’s team trailed 11-6 at the same stage.

York’s momentum yielded a huge 78-43 advantage by the 15th end.

Allen’s team pulled away after the tenth scoring 14 shots to two over the next six ends, while Instone’s team surged on and led 27-8 when their opponents conceded.

The result was relayed to Carlisle where Walker’s team finished with a magnificent 20-10 win and Harrison’s on a great comeback before the game was halted with four ends to go.

York will play South Forest (Mansfield) in the quarter-final on Saturday, February 15.

York ladies will today bid for a last eight place over Redcar in the Mason Trophy, while York ‘A’ conclude their Yorkshire Over-55s League division one game against Thornaby tomorrow at noon. York ‘B’ play Leeds in division two.

York’s David Stroughair represents Yorkshire in the Champion of Champions singles against Sunderland’s Graham Smith at 8pm tomorrow.

York play Scarborough in the Yorkshire Ladies League on Saturday at noon, with Thanet Road hosting the ladies’ pairs national area play-off between Redcar’s Kath Delacoe’s team and the North Cave team led by Danni Martinson.
