THE folk singer Pete Seeger has passed away in New York, leaving behind some catchy folk/protest songs.
People of a certain age can recall Where Have All The Flowers Gone?, If I Had A Hammer, Turn! Turn! Turn! and We Shall Overcome.
If Pete had lived in York, his song titles could have been linked to modern happenings in the city. For instance, Where Have All The Parliament Street Seats Gone, Long Time No See?, We Shall Overcome City of York Council, If I Had A Hammer, I Would Knock Down Stonebow. Pedestrians on Museum Street could shout to motorists trying to cross Lendal Bridge Turn! Turn! Turn! during the restricted hours.
Finally, will Lendal Bridge be closed for the Tour de France stages? Cue Simon and Garfunkel singing A Bridge Over Troubled Water.
