ON READING that the company that owns the York wheel was looking for a new site, one of which was Monks Cross, all I can see is: “Don’t bother.”
The council should only be able to grant one fixed site for this wheel, and that’s on their own doorstep in York, not on the outskirts where my everyday commute has already being disrupted by heavy traffic caused by Lendal Bridge closures.
The council wanted York to be a traffic-free zone, making it difficult for locals to visit banks and shops.
Soon no one will enter York apart from tourists and evening drinkers, because that’s all it’s good for now.
So when it all goes wrong, I would like to remind the council that they should be careful what they wish for.
