UNBEATEN Stamford Bridge Primary School under-11s girls’ have been crowned Humberside FA seven-a-side champions.
The youngsters have yet to lose a game in three regional rounds of the national competition and they will now travel to Nottingham University next month to contest the penultimate stage.
Stamford Bridge won their local cluster event for Wolds & Market Weighton Primary Schools in Market Weighton in October.
That triumph sent the school through to the East Riding final at South Hunsley School in November.
The Stamford Bridge girls finished as runners-up. They were undefeated in the league format but narrowly missed out on top spot despite beating the table-topping team.
The leading two teams qualified for the next round, the Humberside Schools final in Hull.
Stamford Bridge finished top of their section in the initial league stage after wins of 3-1 and 6-0. In the semi-finals, they ousted Thanet Primary on penalties after the sides were locked at 0-0.
Stamford Bridge then beat Newport Primary 4-1 in the final to book their place in the next regional stage in Nottingham.
The top scorer so far in the competition is Madison Stanton.
Stamford Bridge head teacher Trudi Fitzhenry said: “We are tremendously proud of the girls’ hard work, dedication, skill and sportsmanship.
“We are very lucky at Stamford Bridge to have such strong local support for girls’ football, including many opportunities for the team to participate in regular training and matches led by Stamford Bridge Village Football Club.
“This has clearly contributed significantly to their current success.
“We wish them lots of luck in their forthcoming matches at Nottingham.”
