A DOMINANT display earned Stamford Bridge under-14s a 2-0 win at Cayton Corinthians in the City of York Girls’ Football League.
Third-placed Bridge scored a goal in each half to lay down a marker ahead of today’s League Cup preliminary round meeting between the sides.
Ellie Whytock and Jess Wills went close in the opening five minutes before Stamford Bridge took the lead with an excellent goal on six minutes, player of the match Emma Nelson striking an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner.
Continuous pressure finally paid off for the visitors with the second goal in the 41st minute. Ellie Fitzmaurice’s shot was partially saved and Nelson followed up to score.
Second-placed Poppleton Tigers kept up the pressure on leaders Ripon City Panthers with an 8-0 win at Scarborough Ladies.
