A YORK village shortlisted for the Britain In Bloom finals will be visited by judges from the Royal Horticultural Society this summer.

Dunnington was selected from more than 1,000 entrants, along with Harrogate, Leeds, Filey, Kippax and Upper Hopton, as regional finalists in the event, and the judges will visit in July and August.

Judges will be looking at the bedding plants on display, but also local recycling schemes, street furniture, public parks and areas of natural habitat, with special awards for finalists with excellence in specific areas.

Brendan Mowforth, chairman of Yorkshire in Bloom, said: “The work of the RHS Yorkshire in Bloom groups to raise horticultural standards, improve environmental quality and to reach out to members of the community, directly impacts the thousands of people who live in the cities, towns and villages across the region.”
