I WAS appalled to read that Councillor Anna Semlyen has hijacked a city-centre improvement committee to peddle her obsession for 20mph speed limits in York.
Speed limits were never in the remit of this group, yet Coun Semlyen has used this forum to push for yet more 20mph limits, and inevitably more cost to the council taxpayer.
As a national campaign manager for 20’s Plenty she should realise that there is a conflict of interest here. James Alexander, as leader of the Labour group, should be getting a grip. But Coun Semlyen’s previous form in such matters. I am sure none of her constituents were concerned about the enforcement of 20mph zones, but she secured the attendance of the Police & Crime Commissioner to further her own cause.
I am sure Anna will not be happy until we are all driving around York with a man in front waving a flag.
