A TALKATIVE teenager had to bite her tongue when she set out on a fundraising challenge in honour of her grandfather.
Hannah Kelly, 16, of Pocklington, chose to complete a 24-hour sponsored silence and raised £453 for the Stroke Association after her grandfather, William Knapton, suffered a stroke last September.
Mr Knapton, 81, was left with aphasia, which meant he was unable to speak, and Hannah said that was the main reason for her fundraising efforts, with contributions from friends and family. She said: “Anyone who knows me knows how much I love to talk, so this was a real challenge for me. Having seen the way my grand dad was affected by his stroke, I wanted to join him in his frustration and show my support.”
Jo Beverley, of the Stroke Association, said: “The money raised will go a long way in helping to support more than 112,300 people in Yorkshire and the Humber who are living with the effects of stroke, as well as their families and carers.”
