A NEW project has been launched to encourage poetry in East Yorkshire.
The Poetry On Prescription Project, run by Ian McMillan, takes place on Tuesday, February 4, with the Chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Councillor Claude Mole.
The scheme will see Ian writing poetry in some of the East Riding’s sheltered housing settings and residential care facilities, bringing carers and people who are cared for closer together through poetry, humour and conversation.
Workshops are aimed at both residents and staff to give both a new way to connect and a different way to use poetry as inspiration for reminiscence in the care home setting.
The chairman and Ian McMillan will visit Red House, St Anne’s Road, Bridlington at 10.30am, The Waynes, 7 Marton Road, Bridlington at 1pm, and Mallard Court, Avocet Way, Kingsmeade, Bridlington at 3pm.
